A Review of The Price of Malice and the Price of Anarchy

چکیده

I will review two concepts in this project. These two concept are: the price of anarchy and the price of malice. The price of anarchy is the ratio between, the worst Nash equilibrium possible in a game, and the optimal solution achieved when all agents collaborate. So it is comparing the Nash equilibrium which gives the worst social welfare to the solution that gives the best social welfare. The price of malice is the ratio between, the social welfare achieved when there are malicious agents in the system, and the social welfare when all the agents act selfishly. I will explain these two concepts in relation to a virus inoculation game, with respect to two different conditions. The first condition is the oblivious model where the selfish agents are unaware of the existence of the Byzantine or malicious agents, and the second condition is where they are aware of their existence. I will show the results that have been achieved with respect to these concepts and then I will do a critique of the work done and discuss my opinions.

The Price of Malice: A Game-Theoretic Framework for Malicious Behavior in Distributed Systems

In recent years, game theory has provided insights into the behavior of distributed systems by modeling the players as utility-maximizing agents. In particular, it has been shown that selfishness causes many systems to perform in a globally suboptimal fashion. Such systems are said to have a large price of anarchy. In this article, we extend this field of research by allowing some players to be...

Dynamic Pricing with Periodic Review and a Finite set of Prices with Cancellation

In this paper, three dynamic pricing models are developed and analyzed. We assume a limited number of a particular asset is offered for sale over a period of time. This asset is perishable and can be an inventory or a manufacturing capacity. During each period, the seller sets a price for this asset. This price is selected from a predetermined discrete set. The maximum amount which a customer i...

The Effects of Oil Price Movement on Nigerian Macroeconomic Variables: Evidence from Linear near and Nonlinear ARDL Modelling

T he study seeks to investigate both linear and nonlinear effects of oil price movement on critical macroeconomic variables (output, price and exchange rate) in Nigeria using ARDL modeling approach. Previous studies substantially relied on linear methods using VAR approach to unravel this links without a clear conclusion. In an attempt to seek better results in this study, we employ both l...

Reaction of Stock Market Index to Oil Price Shocks

T his study examines how oil price shocks interact with the stock market index within a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model in Iran. Based on quarterly data for the period from 1991 to 2017, the findings revealed statistically significant evidence of short-run and long-run asymmetric behavior of stock market index in response to the positive a...

The P-star Model in Iran (1960-2005)

This paper studies the usefulness of the P-model in the analysis of the behaviour of prices in Iranian economy. The P-model is based on the Quantity of Theory of Money. This model believes that the price level tends to move towards the equilibrium price level. The model uses price gap to forecast inflation, if the equilibrium price is greater than the current price, there is a tendency for the ...
